How to treat Fine Lines and Wrinkles?
Patients often point to their fine lines and ask me what to do about the lines. Fine lines are hard to treat. We cannot remove them but we can improve them. The only tried and true treatment for fine lines would be laser resurfacing. There is a lot of downtime associated with laser.
To minimize their appearance tretinoin should be used. It is a vitamin A derivative and has several published studies proving their worth. Tazaratine is similar however it can be slightly irritating. Both creams are available through your doctor and require a prescription.
For over the counter Retinol or Retinoic Acid can be as effective as Retin-A. I always suggest using a anti-inflammatory product such as calendula, hydrocortisone or other soothing ingredients to sooth possible irritation caused by Retinol. These products help the sin to cycle faster and cause the skin to look younger.
Alpha and Beta Hydroxy Acid also help to treat fine lines. Not only does it exfoliate the skin but it also causes superficial swelling of the skin causing the lines to look less noticeable. Thereby improving the appearance of the line. This is not considered a true treatment but significantly improves the appearance. Whereas retinol can be considered a treatment.
